HYDRAULIC TEST

According to the legislation ΚΥΑ 618/43/05 and the amendment of 17230/671/2005 the steel cylinders with seam of portable fire extinguishers, are subject to periodic inspection every 10 years. In the 20th year from their construction they retire.

The hydraulic test is performed using water. It follows specific steps and procedures. Perform a strength test according to the test pressure indicated on the cylinder. The pressure inside the cylinder gradually increases. The test pressure is maintained for at least 30 sec with the cylinder disconnected from the pump. During this time there should be no pressure drop. There should also be no deformation anywhere on the surface of the bottle.

During the hydraulic test process the fire extinguisher may be deemed unsuitable for use as there may be leaks or deformations.

The process of maintenance-retreading-hydraulic testing of fire extinguishers takes place in the most modern and privately owned laboratories of the company with the most technological equipment that ensures the execution of the procedures provided by the current legislation ΚΥΑ 618/43/05 and amending 17230/671/2005.

Our company undertakes the re-inspection of your fire extinguishers according to the European and Greek standards, and helps you save money by reusing the fire extinguishers that have completed more than 10 years of life.

FIRE SAFETY STUDIES

Many companies (existing or under recommendation) need to issue a fire safety certificate, renew a fire safety certificate, issue an operating license, so that their operating license can be licensed or renewed. By passive fire protection measures we mean all the measures that have been taken with the construction of the building and ensure the timely and safe escape of the public from the building in case of incident and the prevention of fire transmission to other areas or other buildings (emergency exits, route escape, fire compartment, fire resistance indicator, etc.)

Active fire protection measures mean the means of fire protection that must be installed in a building and which aim at the timely detection of a fire or its immediate response before it becomes uncontrollable (fire extinguishers, fire nests, automatic fire detection system, fire extinguishing system, permanent fire network, etc. ) Active fire protection measures are divided into portable and permanent.

The purpose of the elaboration of passive as well as active fire protection is to predict, to control the spread of the fire inside and outside the building so as to proceed to the timely evacuation and finally, to deal with and suppress the fire in case it occurs.

FREQUENT QUESTIONS

What should I consider before buying a fire extinguisher?

First consider the use of the space you want to protect. If, for example, the kitchen is the place you want to protect, you will prefer a dry powder fire extinguisher or even better an F-type fire extinguisher that is most suitable for fires from cooking oils. If you want to protect electrical appliances, a suitable fire extinguisher is one that has carbon dioxide as its material.

I am an administrator in an apartment building. What fire extinguishers should there be?

There is legislation depending on the floors of each apartment building. Usually on each floor there must be a dry powder fire extinguisher of 6 kg. ABC. If there is a boiler room, it would be good to have an automatic roof fire extinguisher 6 kg or 12 kg respectively.

How many years of functional life does a fire extinguisher have?

The dry powder, foam, water fire extinguisher has a functional life of 20 years. After twenty years he retires.

CAUTION! The fire extinguisher is not rubbish that can be left in a bin. It is a pressure vessel and follows a different process for its recycling.

How often are fire extinguishers maintained?

According to the legislation, fire extinguishers of any kind (dust, foam, dioxide, water base) are maintained every year.

Which fire extinguisher is suitable for an emergency at home?

Usually, the fires caused in our house come from categories A, B, C. A suitable fire extinguisher for these categories is the 6 kg dry powder fire extinguisher. Also suitable for fire caused by an electrical appliance is the carbon dioxide fire extinguisher. In our electric cookers, an economical and safe solution is the smart flower fire extinguisher for cooking oils and oils.

In a gas or oil boiler room, what fire extinguisher should I install?

A boiler room with oil will need a roof fire extinguisher of either 6 or 12 kg, it is good to have a portable fire extinguisher of 6 kg ABC and ideally it would be a CO2 fire extinguisher. A gas boiler room will need two portable dry powder fire extinguishers of 6 kg ABC.

What can I do to protect the server room as well as the electrical panels of my business?

Today there are many different materials with which we can achieve extinguishing in critical and dangerous areas. The answer to this question can be given after contacting our specialized staff as there are many parameters that will contribute first to the correct recording of the needs of each company, to its even design and finally to its successful execution in order to achieve the desired result.

What are the weights and types of the most common fire extinguishers?

Fire extinguishers can be dry powder, water based, carbon dioxide. There are dry dust fire extinguishers 1-2-3-6-9-12 kg, water-based fire extinguishers 2-3-6- 9 lt, carbon dioxide fire extinguishers 2-5 kg.

What do we define combustion?

We define the chemical reaction of a substance with oxygen or other gas that retains combustion, which compound, depending on the properties of the substance causes the release of quantities of heat or light.

What do we call fire?

We define uncontrolled combustion with oxygen, which is accompanied by the release of large amounts of heat and light, while most often resulting in the harmful destruction of combustible material.

What are the conditions for the start and spread of fires?

In order for a fire to be created and developed, there must be three factors at the same time. A) fuel, b) air (oxygen), c) heat

How is fuel separated?

Fuel is divided into three main categories a) solids, b) liquids and c) gaseous fuels.

How is a fire extinguished achieved?

Extinguishing a fire will occur if a) I remove the fuel, b) I reduce the amount of heat, c) Isolate the air (oxygen), d) a combination of all the above cases depending on the fire, the prevailing situation and the means I have at my disposal.

What is a fire compartment?

It is the part of the building or the whole building, which is hermetically enclosed by structural elements with a predetermined, as the case may be, fire resistance index. Fire resistance provides the ability to increase the ability of a structure or component to withstand for a specified period of time the thermal effects of a fire without loss of stability, integrity and resistance to heat passage.

What is an escape route?

It is the part of the route such as: the staircase, the corridor, the vestibule and other areas, which are enclosed by fire-resistant structural elements with a predetermined fire resistance index. The escape route must lead to the final exit to a common settlement area or to a smoke-free plot of land uncovered.

What should we look out for in our home to avoid causing a fire?

  • Do not place power lines under carpets, rugs, etc. They may wear out without you realizing it or cause a fire hazard.
  • Do not allow children to play with matches or lighters, as well as with toys that operate on electricity, without supervision.
  • Do not place flammable materials next to the fireplace or any other heat source.
  • Clean the chimney in the fireplace to avoid fire.

TYPES OF FIRE EXTINGUISHERS

Due to the great variety of chemical composition of fuels, no fire extinguisher has been discovered that is suitable and equally effective for all types of fires. The types of fires have been categorized internationally and fire extinguishers have been categorized accordingly. There are 6 categories of fire extinguishers depending on the extinguishing material they contain and for each category it is used in one or more types of fires and are analyzed below.

The categories are A, B, C, D, E, F.

In category A we have fires that come from solid materials such as wood, paper, fabric, plastic and ordinary waste and the appropriate fire extinguisher for extinguishing is the fire extinguisher that has water, dry dust and foam as extinguishing material.

In category B we have fires that come from liquid fuels or liquefied solids such as gasoline, alcohol, oil, varnish, fats, paraffins. The appropriate fire extinguisher for extinguishing is the fire extinguisher that has as carbon extinguishing material carbon dioxide, dry powder, foam.

In category C we have fires that come from gaseous fuels such as natural gas, methane, propane and the appropriate fire extinguisher for extinguishing is the fire extinguisher that has dry dust as extinguishing material.

In category D we have fires derived from chemical metals such as magnesium, potassium, sodium, etc. and the appropriate fire extinguisher for extinguishing is the fire extinguisher that has as extinguishing material the dry powder of a special type.

In category E we have fires that come from cooking oils such as sunflower oils, seed oils, etc. and the appropriate fire extinguisher for extinguishing is the fire extinguisher that has as dry extinguishing material, the carbon dioxide.

In category F we have as fuel cooking hobs with fats and oils and the suitable fire extinguisher for extinguishing is the wet chemichal type fire extinguisher which has ABF as extinguishing material.

  • The company ALFA GIANNAKIDIS P.C. is a standard craft of maintenance and retreading of all types of fire extinguishers in its most modern facilities, emphasizing the services it provides through consistency and prompt service, with the most excellent materials and specialized human.
